Posted by Lisa Suggs There are many little details in Management Reporter that can make report building just a little bit easier than most people know. Lots of features are explained on the financial reporting blog. These are my personal favorites: |
- Subtract eliminations by using dimension filters and calculations.
Whether you do intercompany eliminations or not, you can use this feature. You can filter the dimensions to be included in a column for any number of purposes – restricting accounts, departments, etc. - Get the data you want by using report group overrides.
Management Reporter keeps a copy of every report you run, which is both good and bad. It is good because you can navigate back to reports as they were when they were origitnally generated; but bad because you end up with 15 versions of the same report that you ran while closing the month. I use the report group overrides to send all of the “official” reports to a month end folder regardless of the individual report destinations. Report Viewers have access to these folders, but not the “working” folders that Finance uses. - Collapse lines to view summary information using Show menu.
It seems like a little thing, but this feature can make one detailed report also function as the summarized version. It makes it very easy for a user to get to the bottom line without wading through lots of numbers. - Create an external board book by downloading a report group.
Being able to download a group of reports into a single workbook is a huge timesaver for many of my clients. - Make rows “un-drillable” using XD format code.
In many companies, there is a need to make the detail available to departmental managers, but also a need to restrict some details. For example, you may want to make Accounts Payable invoice numbers and vendors available, but not Payroll detail. This feature allows you to pick and choose what to make available at the row level so that you have control over the drilldowns in your reports.
I hope these MS Management Reporter tips have been helpful to you. If you are interested in more hands-on training with Microsoft Dynamics GP, contact our office or attend one of our training classes.
