Microsoft just released Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 and one of the features that I am most excited about is the rewrite of the GP Web Client. The Web Client is now based on HTML 5. In GP 2015 (and also prior versions) the Web Client utilized Microsoft Silverlight. While Silverlight generally worked well on PCs, support for other devices such as mobile and tablets was not great. By not great I mean that there was pretty much no support for those devices. |
HTML 5 is an open standard and it runs on virtually everything. All of the major browsers and all of the major platforms ranging from your desktop to your phone are all supported. What this means for you is you can now easily access Microsoft Dynamics GP anywhere, anytime and on any device. For real this time. |
For those of you not familiar with the GP Web Client, is does almost everything that the desktop GP client does. It also looks just like your desktop GP client so there is no learning curve. You can log in and start using the GP web client right away with no additional training.
Aside from working at home on your sick days, it also offers IT professionals another deployment option. Instead of having to either (A) maintain multiple desktop installations, or (B) setup and maintain Remote Desktop (or Citrix, etc.), you can now just provide users with a URL and be done with it.
The tasks that cannot be accomplished through the GP web client are administrative and setup type tasks. Most users don’t need access to those screens to conduct their day to day tasks so the Web Client works great in almost all situations.
The GP Web Client is a free addition to Microsoft Dynamics GP. All you have to do is set it up. If you don’t know how, call us and we can help. If you do know how, what are you waiting for?!
