A couple of the most frequent questions I get from my existing GP clients include - when is the right time to upgrade and when do I have to upgrade? There are a couple of questions I advise them to ask themselves with regards to upgrades – when is my version out of support and what can I take advantage of by upgrading? |
GP Support
If you are on GP 2010 R2 or earlier, you are currently unsupported by Microsoft. GP 2010 support ended in October of 2015, so if you have not already upgraded, you may want to look into this as soon as possible. If you have questions about upgrading, feel free to contact us.
If you are on GP 2013 or GP 2013 R2, your support will end in April of 2018. We suggest starting the planning for your upgrade soon in order to make sure you have the budget approved and the upgrade scheduled in plenty of time.
For all versions of GP, Microsoft support is in place for five years. For any version newer than GP 2013 R2, see below for the support end date.

Benefits of Upgrades
Why else might you want to upgrade? Reasons may include taking advantage of new features or streamlining the process.
The longer the time between upgrades and the more versions that have been released, you may end up with a multi-step upgrade (meaning the databases can’t upgrade directly from one version to another so there has to be an intermediary step). This can end up costing more money and down time for your organization. We can discuss this in more detail with you on an individual basis if you have questions.
The more beneficial reason for an end user, however, would be taking advantage of the features GP has to offer in a newer version. Below are just a few of the top features in the last few releases.
