Management Reporter is nearing the end of its development cycle. The most recent cumulative update (CU15) will be the last update released by Microsoft. They will continue to support it, but it won’t be getting any new features or enhancements. For the most part users are upgrading from older versions of Management Reporter to the new CU15 version, which is going well. However, what if you are new to Management Reporter? What if you have decided to get GP 2016 and wish to also implement the newest version of Microsoft’s ERP reporting software as a fresh install? As of this moment, you may have a tough time. When going through the steps of deploying Management Reporter as a fresh install you will come to the point where you need to set up the Dynamics GP Connection Information. This step is what creates the connection from your Management Reporter database to your DYNAMICS database. Normally you would enter SQL credentials to connect to your SQL instance and select the DYNAMICS database from the drop down. However, that does not work as intended in this new environment. You will instead see this error message “Couldn’t retrieve the list of available databases: The connection attempt failed.”
If you’ve gotten to this point then you know that you have already made a connection to your SQL Server instance multiple times, so why would you be getting an error message here? When looking at the Event Viewer logs you will notice that there are no errors at all, so you have nothing to troubleshoot against. Fortunately, this can be resolved pretty simply. Installing Dexterity Shared Components 12 from the GP2013 installation media should address this issue. Once you have installed that piece the setup can continue successfully. |
