SSRS feature | Drill downs
At this point, many companies know about SSRS, however many are not using it to their full potential. There are several features available at no charge to you that may make your life easier. The next feature we want to focus on drill downs. (See below for links to the first 2 parts in the series) Drill downs within SSRS will allow you to drill into another report, a website, or even a field in Microsoft Dynamics GP. This can be extremely helpful in order gain additional visibility into an item you may see on a report. |
Drilling into another reportThis option would be great to allow you to drill into a detail report from a summary report or drill down on a vendor name to a report that gave you vendor information. Drilling to a websiteIf you have a report that shows banking information, you could link your bank website to your report for easy access to view the balances or transactions at the bank. Drilling into a GP fieldAs you see items in your reports that you need more information on, you can create a link to drill down into GP itself. For example, if you see an AP transaction that looks much higher than you would expect, you can drill into the transaction in GP to review. There are a limited number of fields that you can do this for, but can gain access to things like transactions and maintenance cards. You do need to be logged into GP for the drill down to work. Drill downs can be created by going to the text box properties of any field in the report and clicking the “Action” option. Choose report if you want to drill to another report and URL if you’d like to drill to GP or an external website. An extra tip here – you may want to change the font on your drill down to be blue and underlined so that it is easily identifiable by your end users as a field that has a drill down. |
